Penny was born in Massachusetts on September 16, 1924. She spent her youth in Portsmouth, New Hampshire as the youngest of her beloved sisters Mary and Teresa, and brother Peter. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil C. Avery, daughter Karen Hayward and son Peter Hayward.
She is survived by step-children Thomas Avery, Margaret Scarff, Cecil Avery, Jr., and son Stephen Hayward. She was a past member of Beachlawn Baptist Church in Virginia Beach. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the staff of the Iris Pavilion at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, especially Miss Brandy.
Visitors will be received at Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, 601 N. Witchduck Rd., from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11. Interment will be a private ceremony at Forest Lawn Cemetary in Richmond, VA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
