

Robert Harry Nelson, 86, was called to be with his Lord, on Monday, June 14, 2021. He was born in Norfolk, VA on September 25, 1934. He entered the US Navy in 1957. After serving his active duty, he went to work for Lublin McGaughy and Assoc. of Norfolk, VA. He was a 1952 graduate of Norview High School and a proud member of a Norview Alumni Group. He moved to Virginia Beach in 1960. He was a long time member of Princess Anne Plaza United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach. He retired from the Navy as an engineering Aide First class from RNMCB23. His first 2 years of active duty were served aboard the naval destroyer USS Davis DD-937, then switched to the Seabees to finish his career. He retired from MMM Design Group of Norfolk, VA as a Civil Engineer Technician after 33 years. He and his wife were long time foster parents and ran a family day home for many years.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Betty Lou Nelson; his parents, Florence Baird and Lucius Nelson, sister, Ruby Nelson Jackson, and a step-son, Joseph Frederick Reynolds.
He is survived by his son, Daniel Nelson of Blackstone, MA; sister, Myrna Nelson Nyreen and her husband Ronald of Virginia Beach; step daughter-in-law, Natalie Leatherwood and her husband Michael of Chesapeake; step-daughter Catherine Bisette of Windham, NH; step-son, Alfred P. Tetterton of Winterville, NC; foster daughter, Marie Whiteman and of Virginia Beach; step-granddaughters, Tanya Reynolds of Virginia Beach, Tiffany Reynolds Carlson and her husband Daniel and their son Parker, Tara and Teah Leatherwood of Chesapeake; and step-grandson, Nikolas Reynolds of Virginia Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert had a good heart and was very loyal and dedicated in everything he did. He will be missed by all. May he rest in peace.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 20, 2021 from 3-5:00 PM, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 21, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. You may offer condolences to the family at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.
