

Robert (“Bob”) Martin Schier, age 86, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 21, 2023. Bob was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 9, 1937. He was the son of the late Jules M. Schier and late Evelyn B. Morrison Schier. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Peter L. Schier of Reno, Nevada. Bob was happily married to his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Judith A. (“Judy”) Grady Schier for 66 years, and together they had three children. He was “Dad” to Robert D. Schier (deceased), Carrie L. (John) Barrett and Susan M. (Scott) Doody, and “Pop-Pop” to six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He loved his family, working in his yard, building and flying remote control model airplanes, and all animals.
Bob was a retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant and Defense Contractor Senior Analyst with a combined 45 years of proud service to our country. His 22 years of active naval service as an Enlisted Sonar Technician to Chief Petty Officer, Warrant Officer, and Commissioned Officer included duty in surface ships, submarines, operational staffs, training, and undersea surveillance. Before retiring as a Contractor in 2001, Bob last served for 15 years as an Operations Analyst at the Fleet Forces Command Headquarters in Norfolk, VA, where he was a major contributor to numerous analytical reports on naval operations and exercises and managed the Navy Lessons Learned Database for the Atlantic Fleet.
