

Virginia Beach - Robert Skipper, Sr. was born on October 15, 1931 in War, West Virginia. His early childhood was spent in Coeburn and Glade Springs, VA. He was born to the Union of the late John Lewis Skipper and Mazie Davis Skipper.
Robert served in the United States Army for 20 years retiring in 1970, with a Bronze Metal. Robert received numerous awards and accommodations, among those were the Bronze Star and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Robert was employed as a correctional officer at the Goochland County Powhatan Penitentiary. Robert was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, the Men’s Fellowship, Golden Age Ministry, and was honored and recognized for his contributions by the T.B.W.M.E. He also loved going to feed the homeless at the Judea Christian Center. He attended the Lott Carey Conventions on several occasions.
Robert L. Skipper Sr. was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Skipper Hanley, and two brothers, Harold Davis and Charles White.
Robert left to cherish his loving memory his loving wife and devoted companion, Della Mae Skipper; his children, Trigg Roger Skipper and wife Nancy, Robert L. Skipper, Jr. and wife Cassandra, Ozawa D. Skipper-Coleman and husband Ronald, and Jonathan Nathanial Skipper and wife Barbara. He also leaves his siblings, Harold Skipper and wife Helen of Laurel, MD, Franklin Skipper of Emory, VA, John Skipper and wife Delores of Glade Springs, VA, Wilbert White, Gerald White, Carol White, Kay Johnson of Westville, NJ, Costella Murray of Mullica Hill, NJ, Joanne Thomas and husband Elmer of Bristol, VA, Shelia Skipper-Ervin of Christiansburg, VA, Glenna Fields and husband William of Emory, VA. He had nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
A Celebration of Mr. Skipper’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 2153 Kempsville Rd in Virginia Beach. Burial will follow at A. G. Horton Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Monday at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home.
