Sammie M. Hamilton, has gone to be with the Lord at the age of 86. He passed away in Chesapeake, Virginia on March 17, 2024. He was born on January 8, 1938 in Dodge City, Kansas to the late Edward and Nellie Hamilton; he was one of 16 children. Sammie served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, with much of his time spent on a PT boat. After 23 years, he retired from the Navy then he worked for the Norfolk Shipyard where he retired after 20 years. He and his wife, Lucille were active members of Discovery Church in Virginia Beach. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, Bingo, board games, and cards. His greatest pleasure was spending time with Lucille and the grandkids.
Sammie was predeceased by his loving wife of 30 years, Margaret Lucille Hamilton; his daughter, Lisa Moore; 4 brothers, Don, Bill, Edward and Kenney; 3 sisters, Betty, June and Mae; 2 brothers-in-law, James Whitley and Ralph Musselman.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Susan Hamilton; step-children, Wayne Fields (Joyce) and Debra Manzione; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Whitley and Helen Musselman; 9 siblings;10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor Jay McCoy, with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
