Mr. Tom Watson Shackelford

Virginia Beach – Tom Watson Shackelford, 87, passed away November 4, 2010. He was born in Catawba, South Carolina on October 1, 1923 to the late Tom and Anna Shackelford. Mr. Shackelford served our country proudly in the US Navy. After retiring from the Navy, he continued his career by founding and operating the Rappahannock Copper Paint Co. Mr. Shackelford was a member of the Norview Masonic Lodge No. 113. He also participated in the Scottish Rites and the Shriners. Mr. Shackelford was an avid golfer and member of the PGA.

He is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Steve Benefield

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Ernestine B. Shackelford; son, S. Ray Shackelford and wife Elizabeth; daughters, Sherry Lee Vincent and husband Sawyer and Gayle Benefield; brother, Henry J. Shackelford; grandchildren, Tina Lee McPherran and husband Johnny, Jeffrey A. Zimmerman, Christopher K. Jordan and wife Vicky; Victoria S. Shackelford, and Brooke L. Shackelford; and great grandson Matthew Ryan McPherran.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. A service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2010 at Rosewood Memorial Park, Chapel of Serenity. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donation be made in Mr. Shackelford’s name to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1900 Richmond Rd. Lexington, KY 40502, 1-859-266-2101.
