He was the beloved husband of Maureen J. (Boudreau) Samos. They were married for 66 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Arthur and Meropi (Kondomarinos) Samos.
Mr. Samos was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and the University of Rhode Island, Class of 1960. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. In his early career, he was an electrical engineer and went on to form the company Circuit Sales in Lexington, MA. Mr. Samos was also a real estate investor who loved architecture and historical homes. He was a fixture on Wickenden Street and the East Side of Providence.
He was an avid baseball fan, always rooting for the New York Yankees. As a young man, he played baseball for the Providence Journal Bulletin Team and also went on to play for the U.S. Navy team. Mr. Samos also greatly enjoyed art and painting. He especially enjoyed working in different mediums like oil and water- color. As a young boy, he was invited to attend an art program at RISD. He had one of his sculptures on exhibit at URI and a painting of Joe DiMaggio was on display at DiMaggio’s Restaurant in San Francisco. His knack for telling stories was so great that you never grew tired of hearing them.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his loving children, Cheryl A. Jaros (Glenn), Deborah J. Samos, Charles A. Samos, Jr. (Julie), and James R. Samos (Rita-Marie); his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Stephen, Gregory and Scott Jaros, Elias, Coleton and Braydon Samos, Caterina and Alexander Furtado; and his great-grandson Nolan Jaros. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Costas Samos, Victoria Schilling, Freida Clements and Maria Saunders.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. with his funeral service on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 10 a.m. in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick. Burial will follow in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.
