

Gerald E. Merren, age 83 of Wayland, passed away May 27, 2013. He is survived by his wife Margaret "Peg" Merren; his children: Jerry Lee (Susan) Merren, Ken (Pam) Merren, Dan (Marcia) Merren, and Cindy (Dan) Grimm; his sister Colleen (Roman) Marklevitz; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Florence Merren, four brothers, two sisters and a grandchild. Jerry served in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1989 from Spartan Stores, after 33 years and then drove for the Chevy Dealership. Jerry married Margaret "Peg" Harrington on February 3, 1951. They were members of St. Therese Catholic Church, where Jerry served as a Eucharistic minister and usher. He was a Faithful Navigator and a member of the Color Corp for Knights of Columbus 2135- 4th Degree Council and a past Grand Knight for the 4036- 3rd Degree Council. Jerry enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time in his garden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 A.M. Friday, May 31, at St. Therese Catholic Church with Father Christian Johnston officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, with military honors. Family will greet friends and relatives 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at Kubiak-Cook Family Services, Wayland- 312 N. Main Street, Wayland, MI 49348, where a Rosary will be held at 6 PM.
