Mildred Van Houten, age 93, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, April 05, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira VanHouten; her daughter, Linda Dean; and her siblings, Clarabelle, Bernard and her infant brother, David. Mildred will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lois (Gary) Switzer of Sault St. Marie, Lola Merchant of Martin, Sue (Randy) Walcott of WA; her 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; her siblings, Gerald (Joyce) Holcomb, Nancy Szczepanek, Rose (Don) Marcott; and her special friend, Bill Vaulkner. Mildred was a great homemaker on the family farm and showed her love to her family though her wonderful cooking. She was a hard worker. Mildred liked to do crafts, play the organ, read and especially to go square dancing with Ira. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Monday, April 7, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services in Wayland, 312 N. Main St. Graveside services will be held 2 PM Tuesday at Elmwood Cemetery.
