Sharilynn Bernice Westfahl, age 74, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, December 21, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents William Jr. and Marilynn Westfahl-Collier; brother, David Westfahl; son, Michael B. Westfahl; and granddaughter, Mykhayla Westfahl. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Malissa Westfahl; grandchildren Michael W., Zachary, Devin, Zhanae Westfahl; great-granddaughter, Marzia; and one great-granddaughter on the way.
Sharilynn was raised on her family farm in Hilliards. She attended school at St. Stanislaus Catholic School and then graduated from Hopkins High School in 1966. She spent 30 years working for Wayland Union Schools as a bus driver. Sharilynn had an outgoing personality and was well known by many in the community. As her students knew, she always carried red lipstick with her and “promised” the naughty kids she would give them a kiss on the cheek so that their parents would know they had been misbehaving on the bus that day.
She worked very hard to provide for her family as a single mother and would go to the ends of the Earth to take care of her family, even in old age, when she should have been relaxing. She was loyal, smart, hardworking, stubborn as a bull, and everything an independent women should be. She lived a great life and was glad with the choices she made. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home - Dorr Chapel (4330 18th St., Dorr, MI 49323). A Funeral Mass will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021 at St. Therese Catholic Church (128 Cedar St., Wayland, MI 49348). She will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery in Wayland.
