Alice was born in Newport, Fife in Scotland and grew up in Lancashire and Cheshire, England, where she was crowned Miss Nantwich 1973. She trained as a radio officer and served in the Merchant Marines as one of their very first female radio officers. At London's Heathrow Airport, on her way out to her first posting, the MV Avon Bridge, Alice met her future husband who was serving as the Navigating Officer and Second Mate on the same vessel.
In 1984, Alice and her family left England and relocated to Dickinson, where she fully embraced the weather, food, lifestyle and generous spirit of Texas! Always active in her community, Alice was involved in local politics and fundraising, ran the arts and craft classes at the First Presbyterian Church of Dickinson's Vacation Bible School for several years, and graced the stage of many theatrical productions at Harbour Playhouse, College of the Mainland, and Clear Creek Community Theatre. Her Lady Macbeth was a particular highlight and her favourite role.
Alice is survived by her husband of 45 years, Captain Alexander Cathro; her children, Sophie and Christian; her granddaughter, Julia Alice; her parents, Eric and Gladys Mollison; and her three brothers, Clive, Derek and Ivan. She also leaves behind four little furballs - Poppy and Dinah the Pekingese, Suzu the Shih Tzu, and Pinkerton the Maltipoo. Many fellow rescue dogs have come before them.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Wee Rescue, an entirely volunteer-run non-profit organization committed to rescuing small dog breeds regardless of age or medical condition https://www.weerescue.org/donate or email: [email protected] (512)533-9360. Alice was a great supporter of Wee Rescue for many years and adopted some of her beloved furballs from them, including Big Rand, Mr Beans, and Dinah.
