Mr. Bao Dinh, age 80, was admitted to the Houston Methodist St. John Hospital of Nassau Bay, Texas and passed away peacefully on May 18, 2014, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on December 25, 1934 in the city of Kien An in the province of Hai Phong of North Vietnam, he was the oldest of 6 children to the late Mr. Tai Dinh and Mrs. Nhat Thi Pham. He moved to the city of Da Lat in South Vietnam as a refugee from the Communist takeover in 1954. His health was fragile after all the hardships he endured during his life in North Vietnam. At the conclusion of the Vietnam War in 1975, Mr. Bao Dinh resolved to leave his home country of Vietnam and eventually fled with his family to the United States in 1990 to join his oldest daughter, Mrs. Hanh Thi Dinh in Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Mr. Dung Dinh and Mr. Toan Duc Dinh. He is survived by his sister, Ms. Ngoc Thi Dinh of Arlington, Virginia; his sister, Ms. Chi Thi Dinh of Da Lat, Vietnam; and his brother, Mr. Luc Cong Dinh of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also survived by his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Dung Thi Pham; along with his 8 loving children, his son, Mr. Quoc Anh Dinh; his daughter, Mrs. Hanh Thi Dinh; his son, Mr. Gia Xuan Dinh; his daughter, Mrs. Mai Thi Dinh; his son, Mr. Van Xuan Dinh; his son, Mr. Hien Xuan Dinh; his son, Mr. Hung Xuan Dinh; and his son, Mr. Dat Thanh Dinh.
Mr. Bao Dinh was a kind, compassionate, and humble man who cared deeply for his numerous family members: his wife, 5 siblings, 8 children, 15 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and many other nephews, nieces, and relatives. He was an avid reader, who believed in the value of education and taught his children to continuously be in pursuit of knowledge. He was a profoundly loving soul, who was affectionately known as Bố, meaning “father”, to not only his own family, but to all the children in the neighborhood of Da Lat, Vietnam where he resided for 36 years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to all.
We will remember Mr. Bao Dinh for always having a smile on his face and warmth in his heart to share with those around him. He will be dearly missed.
