

Beverly Jean Lindsey McLendon passed away August 5, 2014. She was born to JC and Opal Lindsey on January 25, 1933 in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Jefferson Davis High School. A longtime member of Glenbrook United Methodist Church, she served faithfully on the church council and enjoyed singing in the choir. Beverly's passion was bowling. She was an avid bowler from her late teens. Her passion grew as she became a leader in the world of bowling. She was a past president of the Houston Women's Bowling Association where she served on many committees and delegations. She served as President of the Texas Women's Bowling Association for 9 years, director for 10 years and the Texas Young America Bowling Alliance Advisor. She was the director of the Women's International Bowling Congress for 11 ½ years. She held the position of Texas Women Bowling Writers for 6 years and was the president of the Texas 600 Club for 13 years. Honors bestowed upon her included: Houston WBA Life Member, Women's International Bowling Congress Member Emerita, National Women Bowling Writers Member Emerita, and Houston Youth Bowling Hall of Honor just to name a few. She was inducted into the Houston Bowling Hall of Fame in 1974 and the Texas Woman's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2004. She retired from her 18 ½ years of dedication as the Publications and Conference Coordinator at the University of Houston. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harry Raymond McLendon Jr, son Michael Ray McLendon, parents JC and Opal Lindsey, brother Murrel Lindsey, and sister Mary Blankenship. She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law Patrick and Dawn McLendon, her precious grandsons Matthew and Sean McLendon, sisters and best friends Jackie Blankenship and JoAnn Lindsey and many, many cherished nieces, nephews and friends. Her amazing smile, her wonderful laughter, and her genuinely joyful spirit will be missed by so many. The family would like to thank Connie Moreno for her loving care for Beverly in her final days and Shelly Beckett for superb hospice care. Visitation will be held on Sunday August 10th from 5:00-8:00 at Forest Park East 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, Texas. A Celebration of Beverly's life will be held on August 11, 2014 at Glenbrook United Methodist Church, 8635 Glen Valley Dr. Houston, Texas.
