

William John Durham, loving husband, best father, giving grandfather and sweetest great grandfather passed from this life at the age of 78 after a challenging battle with Alzheimer’s on September 16, 2015 in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Durham preferred using his nick name Billy Jack or B.J. and everyone will remember most, both his loud voice and big generous trusting heart. Billy Jack was born on August 10, 1937 to Jack Durham and Ruby Thomson. Billy Jack graduated from Sam Houston State College in 1959 and soon after married his wife of 55 years, Wanda Joyce Crofford, on March 26, 1960 in Houston, TX. They bought their first house in 1965 in Southeast Houston and never moved to another home. Billy Jack worked for the Houston Independent School District for 35 years as an 8th grade American History Teacher until he retired in 1995. There were many things that brought great joy and laughter to Billy Jack which included music, playing tennis, gambling, watching sports, Shiner Bock, ice cream, family/children and dogs. Billy Jack was preceded in death by both his parents and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends including his favorite dog “Barack”.
B.J. is survived by his wife, Wanda Joyce Durham, and two daughters Sheryl Hoke and Lisa Creech. Billy Jack is also survived by three grandchildren (Lindsey Follis, William Hoke & Mallorie Hoke) and three great grandchildren (Harley, Hayden, Heleyna) that all called him Papaw.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 25, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home.
