It's not often we have the privilege of meeting a person like Dave. He exuded warmth, curiosity, humor, compassion,  exuberance, wisdom and what seemed an endless capacity for kindness. Dave did nothing by halves. It was all or nothing - and it was almost always all. 

For so much of my life, Dave has been there - for the big moments and the small. He was a beloved friend and brother of our heart to my entire family, and we are all the better for having known him. 

I’ve known Dave since the early 90’s we met at Space Center Houston.    One of my fondest memory of Dave was how happy and excited he was for getting a job as contractor for NASA.  He was over the moon of excitement, he showed me how much he was going to make, and I told him he was rich.  We were both just literally got out of high school so any money from a real job was huge to us.  It wasn’t about money for Dave, it was about his accomplishment.  He was a dreamer like everyone else, he was generous, intelligent, kind, and he always made people laugh.  He will be missed terribly.  
May you find peace and love in Heaven Dave.  Until we meet again.  




I have known Dave for over 30 years, since probably before we started high school together.  I have so many great memories of the fun times we shared, listening to great music and talking about life.  Dave is one of the funniest people I have ever been around, and he had a great wit about him.   He was also one of the kindest and smartest people I have ever known.  I am heartbroken for his family,  and have been in a very sad state since I got the news last week.  We had lost touch over the years as we went our separate ways in life, but we got to see each other and catch up last summer when I was in Houston and I am so thankful for that.  Thanks for being you Dave, the world wont be the same without you my friend.   

       I am utterly in a daze after hearing of my friend’s passing. A state of shock, perhaps... I hadn’t had enough time to even process what was told to me in the Midnight hour early May 8th. It was a call from Dave’s Mother. You see it is all too apparent by her words and by the morning light that came into play that best Friend, my Gonzo Compadre, one of the great friendly adventurers of my life had left this mortal coil.  
     Dave Lewallen was/is one of the most warm, jovial, caring Beings I have ever had the honor to have known. A truer, kinder friend anyone could never have in this life’s existence. He was so in love with life and all of its spenders. He loved and truly appreciated real craftsmanship in this world. Clothes, furniture, Fine Art and Vehicles (both those that rolled & flew.) A Renaissance man and …a Rocket Man (though to the best of my knowledge, he never flew into space) he was tireless in his pursuit of the golden prize of Man Space Travel and Exploration, working to perfect the computer systems that would guide our Astronauts and Controllers into History. . He had a long standing Love Affair with  things of the Earth too. His love of Wine & Spirits (Fine Scotch, Coniac & Rums) and Cigars of varied a flavor.  He always found a way to let them help educate and set the mood for intellectual and emotional exploration on a fine afternoon or evening out in the Sun on the Porch of your choosing. 
     It is truly hard to imagine life in a world with out his Physical Presence. Come to think of it, he would have insisted that be the Album title to his Amazing Life.


I've known Dave for almost 13 years. His vast  knowledge will certainly be missed at work, but that pales to the crater left in our hearts because he was much more than a coworker to many of us. My thoughts are with his family.

I've worked with Dave for the last 11 years. To say his passing was a shock or that his being gone will do anything less than leave an enormous hole in the lives of everyone he touched is to be a disservice to his memory. It was the greatest honor to not only work with him for the last 11 years but to him and call him a friend for longer than that has been a great honor.

This news is so terribly sad for me as Dave was one of the most pleasant people I worked with in my time with NASA.  Always a smile and a friendly hello, and Dave was a very talented IT professional who could always be counted on to get the things done that needed doing.  His passing leaves a big hole in a lot of hearts. 

I met Dave around 2007ish?.  My daughter Sara had a Halloween party at her home and I met Dave that night.  He was a very fun, funny, and kind man and will be missed by so many.  I am praying for Dave's family and best friend, and room mate Rus that the Lord comfort all of you in this devastating time of your loved one's loss.

I met Dave many moons ago when he worked in the Public Affairs Office’s Audio Control Room at NASA. After that, I had the pleasure of working with him for many years in the Information Resources Directorate Computer Lab, also at NASA. I learned a lot from Dave’s experience and I appreciated his unselfish willingness to share his knowledge with those of us who were new to the field of IT. I’m glad to have known him as a coworker and as a friend. His sense of humor was second to none. I will remember him fondly.
