My sincere sympathies for your loss. David’s worship deeply influenced me during my teenage years. His Black gospel style and genuine love for the Lord helped spark and shape my love for worship and gospel music. I am better for having experienced that influence, and I’m grateful for the way his gift blessed my life. I will always remember the way he loved his family and the joy he carried. Praying for you.

Pastor Dave was a very big part of our rebirth in Christ. He helped us learn what it was to give of ourselves and show the love that Jesus showed to his fellow man. Dave and Lady Di also bought the house next door to my parents and became fast friends with them. He was always available and would help out whenever asked.
We will miss him dearly.

David was the best Music Minister I ever had. Also a dear  dear friend.. We worked together on many Easter pageants at Faith Assembly and he sang with us in our prison ministry. He could really knock it down on the keyboard and melt your heart with a song. So much fun. Just thinking of David makes me smile..

My prayers, thoughts, love is going out tonight to David’s family and friends. Such a sad loss of an amazing man and friend to me and so many others. I met David around 2021, when my friend Marc brought him to my wife Serina and my cookout at our home in Akron, IN. He and I developed an instant friendship. He was a great conversationalist and always had something funny or clever to say. He also was a very positive influence on me. My wife (deceased as of 9/4/2024) and I loved “Davey”. I look forward to the dawn of the day when I reunite with them both in Heaven.

David is a treasure and even death cannot remove his lasting impact on this world. 

I have known him for many years via online social media with a bond over many untold people we had in common.  We both grew up in the same faith and had a life's journey that was extremely similar.  

I then had the opportunity to teach David in our Celebrant Academy and then invite him to join the Dignity Memorial Celebrant Team - That was one of the wisest decisions I have ever made in leading this program. David was a natural and has positively helped so many families as they walked the journey of grief.  

I cannot tell the stories that reflect his commitment to service, for they would fill a book and likewise they make me grieve deeply as I realize how much a vital part of what we do daily that he had become. 

David was so beloved and like our dear friend Brock shared in another post, I was so thankful that I recently spent five nights with David as we shared in offering Holiday Remembrance Services at our various funeral homes and then shared dinner thereafter.  He was always the first to volunteer for anything we were doing.  He was truly proud of being a part of Dignity Memorial, but we were even more proud that he chose to join us.  

Scott, Trey and I all have had our lives blessed by his presence and we are all feeling the loss of truly a giant of a man. He was the life of the party and drew people near to him.  He could be in a dark suit and conservative funeral dress or look like a shining disco ball in one of his stage performance suits, but underneath it all was the largest and most generous heart a person could ever wish to meet. 

David may not be with us in a physical presence any longer, but he is truly all around us, in every song we hear, in every smile that crosses our face, in every warm embrace, and certainly in the love that he would want us to share with everyone we encounter.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Davids passing. We knew him through RPI. He came to Nashville and played at general conference. Rev David was such a openhearted, accepting, beautiful Christian brother. We knew him as: kind and gentle. May his family find comfort in time. We here in Nashville at Mt Pisgah all know where he's at now. Healed and whole with our Jesus. We Will see David again!

I am heartbroken over the loss of such a dear and amazing friend. From the moment we met on that cruise, you became a ray of sunshine in our lives. Your humor, kindness, and the way you poured into all of us meant more than words can say. The memories we shared  will forever bring smiles and laughter, even through tears. You will always hold a special place in our hearts, and I am so grateful for the joy and friendship you gave us all.  God sent you from Heaven the day we all met, for a purpose and you forever changed our lives. Now God has called you back home to be with your lovely wife and son. Your mission here is accomplished and you can now rest in peace. We love you, David.

I heard about David’s passing today and was devastated by the news. He was someone who I worked with occasionally. Every time  he came in he made the day a little bit better. He would tell stories about taking care of his  mother in law or his adventures. All those stories ended  with laughter. I always admired his kindness. He always took the time to talk to me when he came around and I will cherish those memories.  His presence will be missed by the whole Katy Funeral Home Family

I want to add a note to my original condolence.  David sang for my sister, Carolyn's 90th Birthday as well as for Pat's 90th Birthday.  The song he sang for both birthdays was "Unforgettable".  Now when we hear" Unforgettable", we will always think of David.  His beautiful voice captured the meaning of what friendship is all about.

I met David on a cruise out of Galveston, along with my sister, Carolyn, a friend, LaVerne and friend Pat. We were known as the Frisky Four. David was on the cruise to deal with his grief of losing his wife, Diana.  We befriended David and became close friends as we all surrounded him to hear his story about his life with Diana.  He ministered to us all.  We supported him in the Karaoke events during the cruise and we all cried when he sang "You Rise Me Up". Over the years we followed his life.  We met His daughter, Heather and her husband and welcomed them into our friendship circle. David sang at my husband's Memorial Service. He sang at Pat's 90th birthday party and participated in her Memorial Service when Pat passed away.  Heaven has accepted another Angel, and we cherish the memories of meeting such an exquisite man. We all feel God placed David in our lives for a reason so thank you God for sending David our way.  We will miss you.

Dear dear David, your Light will shine brightly forever!!  You were larger than life…heart of gold, a gentle giant, and you loved like a big ole teddy bear.  

The families you served were the recipients of a most beautiful gift…your magnificent way of connecting immediately and taking care and of their every need. 

And we, your friends and colleagues, now carry a huge whole in our hearts.  We going to do everything we can to honor your presence among us by being the very best we can be as we care for and support the families we serve.

But I gotta tell you this: I’m really dreading our next  staff  meeting because we won’t hear Rick say, “David, I’m gonna separate you and Tina if y’all don’t quieten down!”  

Heaven has welcomed an amazing man…an angel who will continue to bless us all with so many memories…precious times together.

I first met David when he joined our company as a Celebrant. At our first meeting, we connected on both being born at the same hospital and being a part of the Disciples of Christ church. I quickly discovered how caring and funny David was.  He served our families with the utmost respect and care.  He loved to talk about his own family, his days in the ministry, and the life he was enjoying here in Texas.  I was fortunate to have seen David just last week on three separate occasions and enjoyed having dinner with him.  He will be deeply missed by all his Dignity Family and by all who knew him.  Rest well, my friend.

I'm not sure how life will proceed without "OUR DAVID POWELL".  Have had many conversations on a spiritual level. He always assured me that he will be in a WONDERFUL place.   
He also shared with me, the last time we talked , However BLESSED he was to have such a FULL LIFE here in TEXAS.  The man had many friends .
He talked about his friends and acquaintances. I asked him if he was Happy in Texas City?   His response was. Oh YES!!!    IM SO FORTUNATE  TO HAVE MET AND KNOWN DAVID POWELL.

David, you are one of a kind. What a pleasure and experience to have known you and worked with you to help honor many families. You never hesitated to do what you could and to show up for a family in grief, no matter the circumstances. We walked a very difficult path together recently caring for a family twice in a few months, and even though you had no obligation to come and be present for the second services, you made a point to be there and to share in the memory of the loved one who had passed. Thank you, David. Love you :)
