After school, he moved to Amarillo for the Bible Training Works and while there was drafted into the Army and stationed in Germany.
Once he finished his time in the Army, he moved back to Houston where he met Gloria Sciba. They married on February 20, 1971 and were married for 52 great year.
For their first adventure, they decided to build their own home in South Houston, TX by hand with the help of many friends and family members.
David and Gloria were members of Main Street Church of Christ in South Houston. Later the church wanted to add on a Family Center. He wanted to make sure the roof was sturdy enough but it wasn’t… His foot went right through the roof. David served many years as a Deacon. Both Dana and Darel were baptized in that church and David walked Dana down the aisle.
Later, David and Gloria helped start Southbelt Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon, then Elder and Treasurer at the church.
Their favorite daughter, Dana was born in 1973 and went on to marry Aaron Fagler and had a son, Levi Fagler. Aaron passed away in 2011. Later, married Keith Kuhn in 2015. Keith has 1 son, Nathan.
Next came their favorite son, Darel Seymour in 1976. He married Marlo Seymour in 2009 and had 3 children, Caleb, Audrey, and Ethan.
David retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 35 years of service. To keep active, he went to work for Forest Park Lawndale for 10 years.
During David’s time on earth, he taught his kids about the Lord. Coached their baseball, softball, and all-star teams. Had them trained to mow the grass with a push mower and then upgraded to a riding mower. David and Gloria loved their family and decided new adventures needed to be had. Added a swimming pool where they opened their home every Tuesday in the summer and had the ladies and their children from church over to enjoy the refreshing water and picnics in the yard.
Gloria’s love for painting transformed into a business for her. She created wood cut-out Christmas decorations. David bought a huge RV named “Tank” that carried the family and all the Christmas decorations to Canton, TX. Tank did his best to transport the family but, he wanted the family to make friends in Madisonville where he always seem to break down and be on a 1st name basis with the Good Sam’s Club.
Speaking of 1st name basis, both Dana and Darel had the best auto body mechanic in South Houston. Timmy Lane knew when David called, one of the kids had wrecked their cars and he would have a huge payday.
David enjoyed driving the numerous RVs and travel trailers they had. He enjoyed floating down the river at Garner State Park. His main passion was patching all the inner tubes so everyone could float the river.
David was also a gun collector. He and Dana spent many hours on the road and at gun shows.
He and Gloria were ready for the next adventures of retirement and moved in with Dana and Keith in Webster, TX. He spent many hours mowing the grass, spraying roundup along the water line, filling up the birdhouses, resting in his recliner and watching TV.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria Sciba Seymour, brother, Clayton Geist Seymour, his daughter, Dana Seymour Fagler Kuhn, son in-law, Keith Kuhn, his son Darel Seymour, daughter in-law, Marlo Seymour.
He was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Levi Fagler, Nathan Kuhn, Caleb Seymour, Audrey Seymour, Ethan Seymour.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Ira Clayton Seymour, Edith Anna Geist Seymour, brother, Richard Seymour, In-laws, Archie and Elna Sciba, and son in-law Aaron Fagler.
David spent his last few days on earth at home in hospice care. He was able to pass away peacefully where he wanted to be, at home.
John 14:27
