Dotty is survived by a daughter, Shirley Davis Smith, 6 grandchildren: Michael and wife Claudia Drabek, Shawn and wife Andrea Smith, Brandy and husband Archie Brawner, Rachell and husband Roy Yarborough, Thomas Scheu and Waynon Scheu as well as 7 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Dotty was preceded in death by her beloved Husband, Waynon Davis, Daughter: Donna Davis Scheu (pronounced shoy), son, Thomas Dixon Davis, three sisters, Lillian Sawyer, Ethel Chafton and Irene Emerson as well as her parents Lillian and Harry Sargent.
Dotty was known for her love for people; her kindness to children and her adventurous nature. In her earlier years, she was very active in her church, Pasadena Boulevard United Methodist Church. She served as a member of the parsonage committee, an officer on the administrative board and then as Chairman of the Administrative Board. She loved being a part of the United Methodist Women, serving in various roles as she was needed. Her favorite job was making the green beans for the annual Thanksgiving dinner, while her least favorite job was kitchen chairman during Vacation bible school! When Pasadena Blvd merged with Sunset, she was content to attend Sunday school and Church and leave running the church to the next generation.
One of Dotty's all time favorite things to do was "gamble". She made a yearly pilgrimage to Las Vegas and didn't care if she won or lost. It was for the fun, the shows and the free beer. Yep, Dotty loved her beer. When she could no longer fly to Las Vegas, she would travel by bus with the Senior Citizens to the Coushatta Casino Resort in Louisiana. She told one of her friends that she had to go back each month to see if she could get her money back - sometimes yes and sometimes no.
Dotty loved being a member of the Pasadena Grandmother's club where she served as chaplain. Although she really didn't care for football, unless it was the Dallas Cowboys or Houston Texans playing, she adored her Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox. Her son-in-law, Rev Larry Smith would take her to an Astros game whenever he could, especially when the Red Sox were in town!
Among her many hobbies, Dotty loved to fish, play cards, visit friends, travel and eat! Boy did she love to eat and her favorite foods were fried chicken, Mexican food (surprised, I doubt it), Waynon's famous pinto beans, chicken fried steak, drumsticks from the turkey on Thanksgiving and of course, Blue Bell vanilla ice cream.
Dotty served at the Mae Smythe Elementary School cafeteria for more than 25 years in various positions. She went back to school to get her GED along with some college credits at age 55 at which time she was promoted to Manager of the school cafeteria. Unknown to but a few, her love for children extended beyond her own. If there was a child who for some reason or another needed but was not eligible for reduced or free lunches she would cover that cost out of her own pocket. She did this every year she was the manager. Even today, adults will walk up to her in a store or parking lot and say, "I remember you. You're the nice cafeteria lady who used to give me extra food on plate", or thank her for the free meals. Her exceptional work as a manager won her many accolades as well as a trip to Hawaii.
There are so many wonderful things about Dotty that could be mentioned but we would like to hear from you. Tell us something we should know about our friend Dotty Davis.
