Doyle Glyndon Ellison, 96 years old of Friendswood, Texas, passed away July 18, 2024. He was born in Franklin, Texas on January 29, 1928 to Joe and Jessie Ellison. He was married to Juanita Ellison for almost 75 years (they were two months shy of celebrating their diamond anniversary). Doyle worked for Fisher Scientific in purchasing and moved up in the company over the 40 years to finish out his career as VP of Purchasing. He loved woodworking as his hobby and after retirement turned it into a fun venture with Juanita as they did crafts and frequented sponsoring booths at local craft shows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Jessie Ellison; his four sisters, Helen Ellison, Eddice (Bland) Watson, Lois (Joe) Rabe, Phyllis (Frank) Shenkir; his two brothers, Malan Ellison, Travis (Helen) Ellison; his grandson, Jason Ellison.
He is survived by his spouse and love of his life, Juanita Ellison; his sister, Geneva Mitchell; his son, Gary Doyle Ellison and daughter-in-law, Nikki; his daughter, Suzanne Ricketts and son-in-law, Mark. Gary’s family: Gary Jr. (Christy) and children Breah, Bren; Greg (Keri) and children Alyssa (Brandon) and great-great grandchild, Bennett, Adley, Ashtyn; Jason’s son, Branson; Chase (Holly) and children Camden and Carter; Brett (Micale) and children Emerson, Duke, Kameron; Suzanne’s family: Joshua (Courtney) and children Elle, Finn; Jessica (Chuck) and children Ryder, Lily; Jacob (Paige) and children Everly, Jase, Bree. And he adored his two sweet caregivers that became family, Samantha and Tara.
Doyle grew up working sun-up to sun-down on a farm. He loved to learn and to read and would share some of the incredible books he loved. He soaked up books. He loved good cooking, especially home-cooking. He had many “favorites” but one that will live on in the family was his love of biscuits. He was the “biscuit king.” Biscuits and syrup was a staple and an every day breakfast food. Period. He also loved biscuits and gravy when there was time or when he could get a quart of Luby’s white gravy for his fix.
Doyle was a man of excellence and it showed up in every area of his life. He loved to work in the yard and was very particular in how the yard was mowed and all the yard was cared for. He was just as particular and excellent at whatever he put his hand to do, wood-working, his career, house projects, gardening and anything else. He did not allow himself to slack and do subpar work and he expected the same from everyone who worked for him, with him or helped in his endeavors. Doyle loved to sing songs for any situation that arose and loved it when he made people laugh or smile with his song choice. Often those around him never knew those were real songs but he had a lyric for all your happenings. He was also devoted to his Houston Astros. It did not matter when or where they were playing, he was going to find a way to watch or listen to the game. He was passionate about political talk radio. If you were at his house mid-day during the week, you could be assured the radio was on high volume and he was closely listening to every word.
If you were around him for very long, you knew you were loved and appreciated. He was never shy about telling his family how proud he was of each and every one of them. He also loved to cut up and tease which was one of the ways he enjoyed showing his love. He was a man who loved Jesus and loved his family so very well. To know it well is to see the legacy of love left behind.
