Eddy was born in Wellington, TX to P.H. ‘Pat’ Powell, Sr. and Eddie Jo King Powell on November 10, 1949. At the age of two, the family moved to Pasadena, TX so that his father could answer a calling to pastor Central Baptist Church, Pasadena. He was a member of the first graduating class to attend Sam Rayburn High School all four years, graduating in 1968. There were few things that Eddy loved more than singing. He was a member of an all male quartet during his high school years who would sing specials during Sunday services at Central. He went on to lead worship as song leader at Shady Acres Baptist Church in Houston where he met and married Doris Marie Hall on April 18, 1969. He was song leader at Liberty Baptist Church, Pasadena where his father pastored as well. He along with his wife, Doris, her sister Monette and husband Buzzy, and their brother Ricky and his wife Julie formed a quartet called the Liberty Singers. They sang at revivals and gospel concerts locally around town on the weekends. Eddy continued singing solos and specials at church throughout his lifetime.
He met Paula De Masi in 2012. The two married the following year on September 28, 2013. They shared a love for traveling, spending their honeymoon in Branson, MO. Later visiting Disney World together, along with a trip to the Grand Canyon and Tombstone, AZ, and numerous visits to Amarillo to see family. They also shared a love for classic cars. In his latter years, his longing to own one came to fruition when he and Paula were able to acquire two, his beloved Ole’ Blue, a 1936 Ford sedan and Olive Oyle, a 1942 Ford pickup truck. They spent many Saturdays together at car shows, showing off their car and truck, placing in many. Specifically Olive Oyle, placing 2nd in its class in the 2019 Autorama on Thanksgiving Day.
