Elberta grew up in Dunbar, West Virginia. She met her husband Bill when they were in the 7th grade and they started dating as juniors in high school, giving them a total of 75 years together! Elberta and Roberta were cheerleaders all through their high school years and graduated in 1947. She and Roberta were so close; they had a bond like no other. Elberta and Bill were married on October 24, 1953. They welcomed their first child, Jeffrey William in 1956, and Steven Howard followed 23 months to the day later in 1958. Bill worked for Union Carbide and the family moved to Munster, Indiana and then to Victoria, Texas before settling back in South Charleston, West Virginia where their daughter Cynthia Jane was born in 1965. Elberta enjoyed playing bridge and played in a bridge club at the Kanawha Country Club. In 1973 the Fishers moved to Houston, Texas and settled in Clear Lake City. They joined Clear Lake Baptist Church in the mid 70’s and Elberta worked in their Mother’s Day Out program for over twenty years. She loved children and doted on her own, her nieces and nephews, her grandchildren and great grandchildren; she was so very proud of them all. She was a beautiful person inside and out and will be missed by all that were blessed to have known her.
A Celebration of Life for Elberta Fisher will take place at Clear Lake Baptist Church on a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in her name to the Clear Lake Food Pantry located at 15700 Space Center Blvd. Houston, Texas 77062.
