On July 29, 1928, God blessed Essie Lois Taylor to make her arrival. She was born to the union of Rev. Jake Horne and Virilla Pearson Horne in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. At an early age, Essie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and united with Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Dickinson, Texas. As a member of Mt. Carmel, she was under the leadership of several Pastors including the late Pastor Paul Jones, the late Pastor C.H. Foy and present Pastor Lewis Dean Little.
She began her education in Chester, and Beaumont, Texas before her parents moved to Dickinson, Texas where she graduated from Dunbar High School. Essie also attended Prairie View A&M University. She was employed by Omega Services and retired after twenty-five years of dedicated service.
Essie was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She loved attending church, bible study, cooking, singing, and traveling with her sisters. Essie was known by family and friends for her delicious and delectable cakes, pies, and meals. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
On Tuesday, January 26, 2021, Essie went home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Leon Taylor; her Father and mother; Rev. Jake and Virilla Horne, her son; Gary Lee Taylor, her daughter; Cynthia Taylor Whitney and her daughter-in-law, Cynthia Diane Taylor.
She is survived by her children; Robert Taylor of Mansfield, Texas, Minister Sandra Taylor of La Marque, Texas, James Taylor of Houston, Texas, Rhonda Turner (Rev. Darrell Turner) of Houston, Texas, Frank Taylor of Houston, Texas, and Reginald Taylor (Danielle) of Dickinson, Texas.
She is also survived by her loving sisters; Irma Jean Moody of Dickinson, Texas, Annie Lou Ellis of Dallas, Texas, Doretha Mack of Houston, Texas and Katherine Turner of Houston, Texas; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
