Forrest Brooks Smith, a beloved and devoted husband, father, and community member, passed away on November 30, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on December 10, 1955, in Houston, Texas, Forrest was known for his hard-working nature and his commitment to his family and community.
Forrest served an admirable 24 years and 11 months as a law enforcement officer for the City of Houston, demonstrating dedication and integrity throughout his career. His service to the community was further exemplified by his involvement as a member of the Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church, the City of Houston Police Officer's Association, and the HPOU.
Forrest had a deep love for music and was actively involved in his church, where he found joy and fulfillment.
Forrest was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise Lowe Smith; father, Oscar Brooks Smith; brother, James Allen Scruggs; paternal grandparents, Oscar Monroe Smith and Minnie Reese Smith; and maternal grandparents, James Joseph Lowe and Bertha Mae Fyke Lowe.
He was married to Shelia Howell Smith for 48 years, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Forrest was a devoted family man, cherishing time spent with his son, Phillip Joshua Smith and grandsons, Connor Drew Smith and Aiden Brooks Smith. Daughter, Audrey Elaine Smith and grandson, Andrew Oakley Martin Jr. Daughter, Chelsea Kathleen Lovett and husband, Anthony Micheal Lovett, and grandchildren, James Michael Lovett and Lillian Marie Lovett. Also survived by his sister Donna Reese McBee and husband Joe Lee McBee Sr, sister Linda McConnell (husband Larry McConnell-deceased), sister-in-law Rayona Scruggs Gernentz (husband, Rusty Gernentz), numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces, and nephews. Many close friends, church family members, and co-workers over the years are also left to cherish his memory.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home, located at 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598, on December 14, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The funeral service will take place at the same venue on December 15, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
Forrest Brooks Smith's legacy of love, service, and devotion will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate to have known him.
