Frank Simms, 86, of Pearland, Texas, went to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 21, 2016. He was born on October 5, 1929 in Port Arthur, Texas to Frank and Marie Simms. Frank trusted Christ as his Savior in 1984. He was employed at The Rath Packing Company for 34 years. In 1984, The Rath Packing Company went out of business. It was about this time that his oldest son, Rick, decided to open an automotive repair shop. Together, they made that dream a reality, and in August of 1984, Simms Automotive opened its doors.
Frank retired from Simms Automotive in 1988, which allowed him time to continue pursuing his love of carpentry. He had a God-given ability when it came to woodworking. He contracted and built a beautiful home in Pearland. He was a self taught craftsman who could look at anything and build it from a rough sketch he had drawn, whether it was a bay house in San Leon, an addition to a house, cabinets, picnic tables, toy boxes, or train tables. He loved hard work and he enjoyed helping his kids with their projects. He enjoyed good food and loved having his family over for bar-b-que cookouts. In his early years as a father, he loved to take his kids fishing at their bay home in San Leon.
In his later years, Frank looked forward to church on Sunday at the Friends Church in Friendswood. He had a caring group of friends he was very fond of.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Carri. He is survived by his children Rick Simms and wife Robin, Cyndi Tipton and husband Terrell, Denise Carter and husband Billy, Kurt Simms and wife Mary, Chad Simms, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Billy Carter, Blake Carter, Clayton Carter, Brant Elmore, Terrell Tipton, Cole Tipton, Chad Simms and Pierce Simms.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Lakehouse on Dixie and also to the hospice nurses at Hospice Resolution Services.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Frank’s Celebration of Life will begin at 10:00 a.m. with interment to immediately follow at Forest Park East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Friendswood Friends Church, 502 S. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546.
