

Herbert Lee Brannan, 91, of Seabrook, Texas, left this world to be with his Savior after an ongoing battle with blood cancer. He passed away in his home on April 6, 2024 while surrounded by family. Herb was born in Mineral Wells, Texas on February 9, 1933 to Horace and Lorena Brannan. He spent his entire life in Texas.
Herb earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Tech University graduating at the age of 20. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX at the age of 24. Herb continued his medical education at Hermann Hospital, now known as the University of Texas Medical Branch of Houston and at Shriners Children’s Hospital. He practiced orthopedic surgery in Pasadena, TX from 1962 until he retired in 1993.
During his residency at Hermann Hospital, Herb met a young nurse named Lynn who became his loving wife in 1960. They went on to have two daughters, Kimberly and Kelly. Kim became a doctor of veterinary medicine and Kelly became an educator and school counselor. During these years, Herb also served as president of the medical staff of Pasadena General Hospital and later at Pasadena Bayshore Hospital. He also served as president of the Houston Orthopedic Society.
Following his retirement, Herb became active in the Bay Oaks Country Club where he played golf and tennis. He enjoyed his time with the Bay Oaks Old Boys Society, known as the BOOBS. He also enjoyed his fishing trips to Louisiana with his close friends. He became active in a new church just starting out that met at Ward Elementary school called Abundant Life, now known as Gateway Community Church. His time as chairman of the board of trustees for Abundant Life church and his service on the church council for Gateway Community Church were both close to his heart. Herb also founded and lead the Thursday Morning Men’s Bible Study following his participation in an Emmaus Walk in 1998 until his passing. Herb was also a cherished member of the Faithful Friends life group.
Herb was preceded in death by his mother, Lorena Brannan, his father, Horace Brannan, and his brother, Robert Brannan. He is survived by his sister, Helen Sieja and his wife of 63 years, Lynn Brannan. Also left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Kim Fleming and her husband Larry Fleming, Kelly Brannan and long time family friend Nan Kimball; his grandchildren, Christopher Fleming, Sarah Sweet and her husband David Sweet, and Andrew Fleming.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Friday, April 12th at 10:30 am at Gateway Community Church. Services will be officiated by Randy Hageman, Senior Pastor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gateway Community Church at 760 Clear Lake City Blvd., Webster, TX 77598. Please designate donations for the Gateway Community Church building loan.
