Herbert (Herb) Henry Martensen, of Montgomery, Texas, passed away July 28, 2025. He was born in La Porte, Indiana on November 12th, 1931 to Carl and Edith Martensen. He was married to Lillie Mae Martensen for 41 years till her passing on December 24, 2023.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Edith Martensen, spouse Lillie Martensen, brothers Carl and Norman Martensen, sisters Helen Bennitt, Lois Markley, Doris Bennitt, son William Martensen, daughter Linda Martensen.
He is survived by sons Wayne (Bonnie) and Wendell Martensen, daughter Mary Wilson, stepsons James and Edward Sweeney, along with too many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren to list.
Herb grew up on a family farm with his parents and five siblings. His father passed away in 1944 when he was just twelve years old. After the passing of his father, he dropped out of grade school to help with the family's survival. After many years of farming, because of all the woes that come with that industry, he was forced to find a new career path.
He drove trucks for part of the 60's and into the 70's, but he eventually found construction to be a good fit for his hands-on skills. He became a Union man for the next 50+ years. During his time with the Union, he worked with the Teamsters and the Operating Engineers. He helped to build many different things including the nuclear power plant in Bay City, Texas, which supplies over two million people with electricity daily.
In 1985-1986 he worked on the Statue of Liberty restoration, helping to finish the job before its centennial celebration on July 4th, 1986.
During his journey we call life, Herb and his wife, Geneva Ruth Borders (Cox) were blessed with five children of their own. But the woes of life hit once again causing him and his wife to go their separate ways. He spent the second half of his life in Texas.
While living in Texas he remarried to the final love of his life, Lillie Mae. After retiring, they spent the last 30 years of their lives living in Lake Conroe Village.
Herb may not have been perfect, but he was a good man who left behind many memories for those around him.
