JOYCE ISABELLE MELLIN HEBNER, 80, passed away October 26, 2012, after a long illness. Born in Howard Lake, MN on May 31, 1932, she was one of eight children of Oscar and Florence Mellin. She met the love of her life, Richard Stanislaus Hebner in Ogden, UT where Rick was serving in the Air Force. They were married 55 years before he passed away in 2006.
Joyce was born with an innate ability to take something broken and fix it. Whether it was an abused and neglected foster child, a piece of furniture discarded by the side of the road, or an old ramshackle house, she had the ability to see potential and help something or someone reach it. She loved travel, staying busy, the Dallas Cowboys, and getting together with family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Donald Mellin; sisters Shirley Olson, Donna Wallin and Sharon Mellin; and one great-granddaughter, Riley Michelle Scott. Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Mark Hebner and his wife Lynn Smith; DeDe Hebner and her husband David Edmondson; Curtis Hebner; and Heidi Clark and her husband Cody. Her 13 grandchildren are Priscilla Jackson; Kim Kims; Marc, Ryan, Craig, and Haley Hebner; Brandi Smith; Brad and Neal Edmondson; and Hannah, Aaron, Mary Grace, and Olivia Clark. Her 16 surviving great-grandchildren are Adrian and Abby Ortiz; Brady, Blake, Baley and Alexis Jackson; Felicia Howard; Katie and Kyle Nichols; Leisha and Taylor Griffin; Thomas and Kenneth Hebner; and Gavin, Clayton and Witten Scott. She is also survived by three sisters, Sonia Gardner of McGregor, MN; Dorothy Wallin of Spring Lake Park, MN; and Grace McGarvie of Plymouth, MN, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. The family also acknowledges with tremendous gratitude the devotion of her long-time nurse Roselind Taylor.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm (rosary at 7 pm) on Sun. Nov. 4 at Forest Park East funeral home, 21620 Gulf Freeway in Webster, TX; funeral Mass will be at 10 am on Mon. Nov. 5 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18223 Point Lookout Dr. in Nassau Bay, TX, followed by a luncheon in the parish hall; burial will follow at 1:30 pm at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, TX.
