

She was the first child of William Burhl and Marjorie Smith who moved to Galena Park, TX in 1953 where she was raised, and graduated from Galena Park High School in 1970 as the Valedictorian of her class.
She attended Stephen F. Austin State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 1974 and master’s degree in Statistics in 1975. Karen married her high school sweetheart, Bill Skinner, in 1975 and moved to North Shore. Karen and Bill were blessed with two daughters, Jennifer Beth (6/6/1980) and Julie Marie (9/30/1982).
Karen started her career at Tenneco Oil in computer programming and retired from San Jacinto Community College as a professor of Mathematics. The family attended Holy Trinity United Methodist Church in North Shore where Karen was very active in the children’s ministry and music programs.
She was preceded in death by her father Burhl, mother Marjorie, and sister Peggy Jill. She is survived by her husband of 46 years Bill Skinner, sister Trudi Hackett, daughter Jennifer Kinser and husband Stephen, daughter Julie Dannelley and husband Jarred. Karen was also survived by 4 grandchildren, Aidan (18), Hannah (9), Lorelai (9), and Emersyn (3). She was also loved by nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family is holding a memorial service to celebrate Karen’s life on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church Crosby located at 615 Runneburg, Rd Crosby, TX 77532.
