Marian June McCaa, 82, a much-loved mother, Mee-Ma, sister, aunt, and friend to many, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at the Methodist Hospital, surrounded by her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her.
Marian was born March 6, 1930 in Waco, Texas to Edwin and Edna Mae Kuehn, where she became the older sister to her two brothers, Milton L. Kuehn and John David Kuehn. The family remained in Waco all through her high school years, which allowed Marian to enjoy spending time with her best friend, Jean Cantrell. Jean and Marian spent quite a bit of time having fun at Connally Air Force Base, bowling, riding horses, and working together as soda jerkers, operating the soda fountain at William’s Drug Store. Jean laughed as she recounted getting caught by Pop, Marian’s father, as the young girls danced the night away at a nightclub. “I don’t know how he found us...” she laughed, “...but he did! And he sent us home, too!” Marian graduated from Waco High School in 1947 and shortly thereafter moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where she was employed at the courthouse.
Eight years later, in 1955, Marian, more affectionately known as “Mee-Ma”, married her late husband, George Hugh McCaa, or “Grandaddy”. Together they raised their three children, daughters Deborah Gayle and Janis Marian, and son George “Eddie” Edwin. The family moved to Houston in the 60’s where Marian worked as an automobile title clerk, and eventually owned and operated the family business, K&M Laundrymat. Meanwhile, George and Marian started a second family business, McCaa’s In-Place Machining & Shop, which they proudly owned and operated for 30 years! Although it may have started small, McCaa’s In-Place Machining eventually outgrew their tiny garage, so they purchased land on Roy Road in Pearland, Tx, where the shop still stands today.
It was in Pearland where Marian and George’s family grew larger. Marian loved going to their different properties with George, just to get out of town for the weekend. They also blessed their family with the opportunities to make many memories in their canal house in Galveston, Texas. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren, participating in school activities, attending sports games, and making memories. Mee-Ma always loved music and would dance any chance she got. Her weekly rituals included multiple nights out to dinner with her family, watching “Dancing With The Stars”, and her faithful trips to the hair and nail salon. Mee-Ma was always as dolled up as she could be -- hair done, nails painted, and looking pretty in pink!
Marian is survived by daughter Janis Marian Turner and husband Dr. Keith Turner; son George Edwin McCaa and wife Teresa McCaa; son-in-law Ricky McCullough; grandchildren Bert McCullough, Mark McCullough and wife Susan McCullough, Brittany Turner, Holli Lewis and husband Bryan Lewis, Lindsey Turner, Lauren Christine Balshaw, Lauren Ashley McCaa, Ryan McCaa; great-grandchildren Gregory Jeude, Chloe Jane McCullough, and Chase Bucklew; brother John David Kuehn; brother-in-law Thomas McCaa; nieces Becky Kuehn, Michelle Weltz and husband Roger Weltz; nephew Daniel E. Kuehn and wife Bernadette Kuehn; great-nieces Allison Scott and Rachell Kuehn; best friend Jean Cantrell and husband Tom Cantrell; as well as other loving family and friends.
Marian is preceded in death by her husband, George H. McCaa; daughter, Deborah Gayle McCaa; and brother, Milton L. Kuehn.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Forest Park East Funeral Home, Webster, Texas. The family will receive friends at the viewing from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. preceding the service Sunday afternoon.
