Marshall Ray Christopher Sonnier, lovingly known as “Chico,” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 2, 2025, at the age of 60. A longtime resident of Webster, Texas, and a native of Carencro, Louisiana, Marshall lived a full life defined by faith, service, and love for his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years and lifelong partner of 43 years, Carman Sonnier; their two sons, Corey and Cameron; and his cherished grandchildren, Cayman (10), Xerxes (3), and Zaia (1). He is also survived by his siblings, April Sonnier Brown (Norman Brown), Troy Isaacs, and Richard Daniels.
He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Marcus Jay “Dino” Sonnier; his mother, Ethel Rae Cormier; his father, Charles Joseph “CJ” Sonnier; his maternal grandparents, Nora Breaux and Jules Cormier; and his paternal grandparents, Ida Perkins and Willie Sonnier.
Marshall proudly served his country in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, dedicating 10 years of service as a paratrooper. He deployed to Saudi Arabia, serving courageously in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where he earned distinction for his bravery and commitment. For his service, Marshall was awarded the Bronze Service Star, Army Achievement Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the National Defense Service Medal from Southwest Asia.
He pledged the Theta Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated in Baton Rouge and remained a proud and active member of the Rho Beta Beta Chapter. His professional career spanned over 20 years at Lubrizol, where he was respected by colleagues and friends alike.
Marshall was also a devoted member of HOPE Church Pearland, where he worshipped faithfully for more than 20 years and served in the AYSM Ministry. His commitment to faith and fellowship was evident in both his church service and his daily life.
A man of community and compassion, Marshall gave generously of his time as an active volunteer at Robinson Elementary School and Memorial Hermann Hospital. He never met a stranger, and his warmth drew people in wherever he went. He especially enjoyed cheering for his sons on and off the football field, spending time with his grandchildren, and returning home to Prairie Box for family cookouts. Time with his fraternity brothers was also a source of joy and lifelong fellowship. Family, friendship, and togetherness were the cornerstones of his life.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate Marshall’s life will be held at HOPE Church, Pearland (4209 Broadway St., Pearland, TX 77851) on Saturday, September 6, 2025. The Omega Memorial Service will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
