Mary Ann is survived by her daughters DeAnna McCollough and husband Craig, Melissa Cooper and husband Stewart, 6 grandchildren, Nicole LeBleu and husband Jon, Michelle McCollough, Matthew McCollough and wife Rory McCloy, David Cooper and wife Meagan Denos Cooper, Chris Cooper and wife Ruth, and Sarah Cooper, and 6 great-grandchildren Piper, Rush and Jude LeBleu, Linc Cooper and Henry and Smith Cooper. Mary Ann is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Ernest Hoffman, her parents, HD and Annie Belle Waits, her sister Martha Dee Wallace and brother John Larry Waits. She will be missed by her many friends and family members.
Mary Ann attended Wharton County Junior College where she was on the dance team. She also attended Texas State University where she received her teaching degree to teach homemaking. She could cook like a chef and sew like a seamstress. She met her husband Ernest at WCJC. They married in 1957. Mary Ann and Ernest lived and taught school in San Marcos, San Antonio, Clear Lake (Houston), Blanco, Johnson City and back to San Antonio before she retired in 1991. Mary Ann started doing ceramics, took painting lessons, and continued to sew, now for her grandkids, and for many projects at church creating beautiful panels used and displayed all over the church building. She was also very involved in church activities including singing in the choir, playing hand bells, helping with VBS, Emmaus and mission work. She was never idle. There was always some project to work on. She was steady and even keel, and fiercely loyal.
Mary Ann was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease around 2016. She moved into a memory care facility after her husband’s death in 2022. Alzheimer’s makes for a long goodbye. We are grateful she’s at peace now.
