Menefee Holdren

Menefee was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband “Chuck” Holdren; and her sisters Gloria Slates and Lucille McAlister.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Holdren and her children Lacey Webster and husband, Jason and their daughter Kinley, Lindsay Ellis and husband, Chad, and their children Asher and Emerson, and Lesley Benbrook. She is also survived by her son, Rick Holdren and wife, Marilou, and their children Marlo and Richmond, as well as numerous other family and friends.

Raised by two deaf parents, Menefee was a Level 3 Sign Language Interpreter, a member of CODA (Children Of Deaf Adults) and a pioneer in the Houston area for the deaf and hard of hearing community. She signed for the Channel 13 Eyewitness Morning News and regularly volunteered for her deaf friends.

Menefee truly never met a stranger. She was a dear and loyal friend to many including her neighbors, her bridge club, her fellow graduates from Milby High School and more. Living independently, she enjoyed being able to drive and would regularly meet loved ones for breakfast or lunch. And she never missed her weekly beauty shop appointment.

Those who knew Menefee well can tell you about ‘her stories.’ All she needed was a listening ear and a cup of bottomless black coffee and she would share wonderful stories about her life, her family and her friends. But by far, the best stories she shared were those of her times with her husband. Two pen pals who fell in love- they were soul mates separated far too early. Completing their beautiful love story, we are comforted knowing she met her forever Valentine on Valentine’s Day, and are quite sure he was waiting with a rose in hand.

The family will receive visitors on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 6 pm – 8 pm at Forest Park East Funeral Home with services to follow on Tuesday, February, 19, 2013 at 12:30 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.
