Min Ja Kim, loving wife, mother, and devoted follower of Jesus Christ died August 14, 2021 at the age of 80 at her home in Houston, TX. She was born in Seoul, South Korea to Hi Kyang Park and Kwi Hyang Lee who preceded her in death. She came to a new life in America in 1968 to join her husband who was doing a medical residency program. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Chung Yul Kim, sons Daniel (Barbara), Andrew (Joy), and Charles (Grace), and six grandchildren Samuel, Joseph, Jonathan, Adelyn, Sylvie, and Khristian. She is also survived by three brothers, Seung Kyun Park (Suk Kyu), Dae Kyun Park (Seung Jin), Woong Kyun Park (Yoon Hi), and one sister, Kyung Eun Lee (Jae Sung).
Min Ja Kim graduated from Seoul National University and taught English before marrying. She lovingly encouraged her sons to do their best in school and learn to play musical instruments. It brought her much joy to hear her sons play piano and stringed instruments and to hear her grandchildren play piano for her when they visited. She also learned to play the piano herself and loved singing in the University Baptist Church choir. She made many friends attending women’s Bible studies at UBC as well. When her children were school aged, she worked on completing her Art degree from the University Of Houston Clear Lake. Her home was filled with her lovely paintings, many of which portrayed religious themes. She was known to remember extended family members’ birthdays and pray with them over the phone. She was devoted to Bible reading, study, and prayer, often offering to pray for others and desiring for them to have faith in Jesus.
In the years before her death, she suffered from Parkinson’s disease. Mrs. Kim’s faith helped her to stay strong through the difficult times of her illness. We are thankful that she has finally found true comfort, peace and rest in the loving arms of Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Parkinson’s research at michaljfox.org, or to a charity of their choice.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 24 from 5:00PM-8:00PM in the Chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home located at 21620 Gulf Freeway Webster, Texas. A Celebration of Mrs. Kim’s life will be held Wednesday, August 25 at 1:00PM at University Baptist Church located at 16106 Middlebrook Drive Houston, Texas. Immediately following, she will be laid to rest at Forest Park East Cemetery.
