Patrick passed away at home on February 15, 2026, his wife and brother by his side. He was born March 13, 1948, in Houston, Texas, where he lived until heading to Austin and The University of Texas following his graduation from Jones High School in 1966.
In high school and college he was active in debate and drama. Summers while in college he worked at both Six Flags Over Texas and Astroworld, appearing in shows performed for park guests
Patrick's first "real" job was with Jack in the Box in downtown Houston. He worked in restaurants for a large part of his life, including Cortlandt's (where he was the first sommelier) and Los Troncos in Houston, and The Quiet Man and Night Hawk in Austin. He met Elizabeth in 1976 while both were working at Night Hawk, a long-time Austin favorite. They moved to Houston in 1980 when Patrick accepted a position with Steak and Ale, and were married in 1982.
He left the restaurant business in 1985 to work as an executive recruiter for the hospitality industry, first with Bruce Whitaker at United Search Associates, before establishing his own company in 1995. In 2004 he joined his brother Michael in his construction business, where he worked until retiring in 2010.
Patrick enjoyed participating in all manner of hobbies including surfing, fishing, boating, scuba diving, tennis, golf, and more. Once retired he joined his neighborhood tennis league, playing until 2018 when Parkinson's Disease made it unwise for him to continue. He still looked forward to going to the courts to kibbitz from the sidelines and visit with "the boys"
Patrick often said his aim in life was to make people laugh. Perhaps that is one reason he made and kept many friends, from as early as elementary school, through high school and college, and so many neighbors wherever he lived. He will be missed by all those who had the great fortune of knowing him.
Patrick is predeceased by his parents Norma and Viron (Junior) Evans.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (McDonnell) Evans, brother Michael Evans, brother-in-law Rex McDonnell and his wife Darla, as well as many lifelong friends and neighbors. He would often remark we have the best neighbors ever.
We honor Patrick's life, one that touched so many with laughter and joy. Though we grieve his absence, we give thanks for the gift of his presence and the memories which will keep his spirit alive.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Village Home Health and Hospice for their commitment and support. Elizabeth will be forever thankful for the care and compassion of his caregiving team, notably Ivette (who has been with us from the beginning of our hospice journey) and Donnica for their devotion and care. His hospice team always had time to provide love and encouragement.
No service will be held at this time. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date, where family and friends can gather to share stories and honor Patrick's life. If you would like more information please contact a member of the family.
