Phillip Alvin Taylor, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, uncle and cousin, passed away Friday February 10, 2023 in Webster, Texas. Phillip was born March 9, 1932 in Lecompte, Louisiana to Lewis May Taylor and Willie Gertrude (Miller) Taylor.
Phillip is predeceased in death by his parents, siblings Mary (Taylor) Sharrock Reynolds and Nelson M. "Bill" Taylor, infant daughter Angela Louise Taylor and sons-in-law Robert Bridges and William Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Wanda (Vinson) Taylor of League City, TX, daughters Sharlene Thomas of Seabrook, TX, Janet Taylor of Clear Lake City, TX and Gigi Bridges of Silsbee, TX, grandchildren Matthew Belair, Jason and Tim Mitchell, Tiffany Harvey, Ami (Thomas) Cotharn (Tyler) and Kenneth Thomas; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Phillip graduated from Robstown High School in 1949. He attended Texas A&M studying Chemical Engineering. He had a passion for building things starting at a young age, and his "hobby" carried through his lifetime.
He married Wanda Vinson of Robstown, TX in 1953. He worked for Heldenfel Bros. driving a dump truck, went on to work for the Robstown Water Dept, until later when he started a long career in the petrochemical field. He started his petrochem work with Celanese at a small plant in Bishop, TX. In 1969 Celanese transferred him to their Bayport plant. He left Celanese many years later and worked for Lonza until his retirement in 1993. Lonza called him after retirement and asked him if he'd be willing to go to Switzerland to straighten out a problem with one of their plants there. Who would want to give up a free trip to Switzerland? He and Wanda jumped at the opportunity and traveled there and really enjoyed the adventure and experience of that part of the world.
He served as an active member and Deacon at First Baptist Church in Robstown, TX in his early years. He also served the Lord at Bay Area Baptist Church, League City and First Baptist Church, Webster.
Phillip had a passion for mission work and began building churches with Volunteer Christian Builders after retirement, traveling around with Wanda in their RV. He also developed the Prayer Chain within the VCB group and served as the Prayer Chaplin as well as a board member.
