I will miss my friend my brother from the post office who I love talking sports with. R.I.P my brother

I was saddened to hear about Rick's passing. 

Our interactions, though not numerous, left a strong impression on me.I'll always remember when I first met Rick, and he played "Fernando" by ABBA, knowing my name. It was a memorable first impression that still makes me smile. 

Our occasional cigar sessions were full of light-hearted banter and showcased Rick's excellent sense of humor.

A standout moment was when Rick bought me my first legal beer when I turned 21. Having grown up without a father, I appreciated this gesture more than he probably realized.

I'll keep these fond memories of Rick in mind as we remember him. 

He will be dearly missed.

Rick,  thank you for being a good friend.  I’ll miss our long conversations about sports, movies, politics and life.  I’ll miss your Shepards pie and sharing a meal with you followed by fine cigars.  You were always a good listener and dispenser of advice.  

To his family and old friends I know this is a tremendous loss.  It is for all of us.  Rick touched so many lives in his brief time with us.  He was one of a kind.

Rick was an outstanding friend. I enjoyed a good smoke with him, on several occasions. On game days, his famous shepherds pie was always one of my favorites. He will be missed. 
May the Angels lead him to the gate of paradise. 
Rick my friend your job here is done…  go home… so many family members and  friends are waiting to greet you… may God bless you.

I knew Rick as a cigar smoking-Celtic- Red Sox fan-hard worker. After reading memories from family and friends, I learned a lot more about Rick. He seldom talked about his life stories. The few times he did, I could hear in his voice and his enthusiastic descriptions that he missed his life back east. (The things one does for his family). We went to a U of H/Memphis basketball game, and he was coaching from our seats. "Damn, this guy really knows basketball," I said to myself. Rick your candid personality was misinterpret at work, but I understood you. We used to get into heated debates over the Red Sox and Astros. When I had him fuming, all I would have to say is one word..., "Samantha." His whole demeanor would change to a broad gleaming smile. He loved his daughter dearly. You will be missed.

My dad had passed a year earlier, here we are struggling mightily to choke down his left over Ballantines !

RIP Spence …I miss you a ton already. Sympathies to all who were lucky enough to share some of their lives with Spence. 

Incredibly bright, caustic, irreverent, hilarious, wise-cracking Somerville kid. And never shy with an opinion! 

We were great friends for 50 years...Roommates for 4 years...I was his best man ...He was godchild to my daughter ...We still texted multiple times a week until the day he passed. 

We met when Spence took me under his wing when I was a 15-year-old high schooler playing pickup hoop against "the men" at Fidelity House. For the next couple decades, we were “gym rats” playing in tons of gyms and playgrounds all over Somerville, Cambridge, Arlington, Boston. We played anywhere –and against anyone. The tougher the competition the better. 

For 30 seasons, we played together on “the Rockets” our hoop team in the Somerville Rec League. The Somerville Rec playoffs were a happening, drawing tons of people, ringing the Trum Field courts on hot August nights.  There were loads of beach chairs, beer filled coolers, perhaps a whiff of cannabis in the air (!!) Cars were double parked in the street that looked out onto the court. 

As roommates, we had a sunny apartment on the corner of Cedar and Summer Streets. Whomever was up earliest on Sundays would go buy the Globe, Herald & Times.  We would brew a couple pots of coffee, listen to jazz, and inhale the newspapers, while Spence would whip through all three crossword puzzles. 

The apartment was perfect for hosting parties, which we did a few times annually. Spence always serving as DJ with his eclectic music collection. We always took hilarious pride in surprised party guests remarking, “wow, you guys are neatniks, this place is nice.” 

Just so many memories.  I have laughed incredibly hard (through tears) many times the last couple of days, thinking of old “Spence stories”.  I will focus hard on the zillions of those wonderful memories now, and forever. 

RIP Spence…Its been an absolute blast!

I grew up with Ricky in the 70's and 80`s.Ricky was a great basketball player.
We lived in the North st. projects He was a great guy.

Where does time go...fond memories of playing hoop with Rick and our many friends all over greater Boston and beyond.  Somerville, Arlington, Cambridge, Everett, Brighton, and Charlestown to name a few. Organized leagues, tournaments, or casual pick-up it just didn't matter, as long as we were running and playing ball. RIP my friend, all your Hoop buddies in Somerville and beyond will certainly miss your infectious smile and smooth jump shot.

I have so many memories of growing up with Ricky in Somerville, we lived side by side  for several years and our houses seemed like one in the same. Birthdays were the best, for one day a year we were the same age, Plus we got to have cake and parties two days in a row!

We also shared summer camp, and vacations on the cape in our early teen years.

Wonderful times! I Love you and miss you Cousin.

Just learned yesterday from my brother of Spence's death. I was stunned to hear it. This awful news is reaching our Somerville hoop circles. I am beyond sad to hear it.

We played with and against one another in a zillion hoop games, leagues and pick-up games at Trum, Lincoln, Conway and FIHO in Arlington. We were all young, in great shape and could run like the wind. Spencer often arrived on his ten-speed,  ready to drill his baseline jumper as soon as he got off the bike.

Besides the competition, we developed a camaraderie that is hard to define and harder to replicate. We had a million laughs before, during and after games. A million.  I still miss it.

I know I'm speaking for my brother, my cousins, Doc, Mitch, Ed, Phil, Pug, the Kotzubas, every Rocket ever and many, many other others in saying you'll be missed Spence and are remembed with great affection.

I am so sorry for the loss of Rick.  As cousins, we were close in age, and I used to hang around with him at family gatherings when we were younger.  I have good memories of Ricky.  He was always very kind to me.  Wishing him and his family peace…
