Roland Richards of Bellville, Texas, at 86 years of age, quietly went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 23, 2016. Roland was born in Kirtley, Texas on July 5, 1929 to Billie and Esther Richards. He was married to the love of his life, Helen Richards, for 57 years during which time he was a devoted husband, father, and community leader. Roland grew up on a farm, worked for the railroad and Shell refinery during his earlier years, and worked his adult life in the commercial real estate business. He owned Campbell Commercial Properties and stayed active in real estate until his passing. Roland proudly served his country for 5 years in the United States Army. He was an Honorary Director at the Pasadena Rodeo Association, a Rotarian, on the Board of Directors at San Jacinto State Bank, supported Austin County Fair Auctions, and many other fund-raising activities in the Pasadena and Bellville area.
In 1986 he moved to Bellville where he lived on his ranch, yet he continued traveling to Pasadena to manage the family business. There he enjoyed being with his family, horses, cattle, and many friends. He and his wife loved horses and loved to ride, but also loved teaching and watching their family ride. He was a man who never forgot his country roots, and family was first. He and his wife loved having the entire extended families over for holidays, reunions, and get-togethers. He was a man of integrity, an honorable and fair man both in business and true friendship, whose word and handshake were his bond.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Billie and Esther Richards; and his older brother and his wife, Billie and Dorothy Richards. He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Richards; his sister, Dorothy May Bunch; his 5 children, Kenneth Richards and wife Jeannie, Sharon Duperier and husband Craig, James Richards, Carolyn Cordes and husband Greg, and Rhonda Dean and husband Michael; 8 grandchildren, Tamara Moerbe and husband Ben, Roland Dupier, Matthew Dean and wife Kristin, Brittany Dean and husband Christopher, Laurie Leveton, Jamie Crowe and husband Koy, Esther Richards, and Elizabeth Richards; and 5 great grandchildren.
