He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on October 24, 1933, to Roy and Matilda Sanchez. He met the love of his life Elvia Ramirez in intermediate school and the two came together. They were married for 66 years and had four children.
After graduating high school, Roy joined the U.S. Air Force. After his service, he worked at the U.S. Postal Service while earning his bachelor’s degree from The University of Corpus Christi. Roy then began his career with the U.S. Department of the Treasury including the Internal Revenue Service and worked in the Laredo, Corpus Christi, and Houston offices. He had over 38 years of total service with the federal government. Along with the way, he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston – Clear Lake and his Certified Public Accountant license. After retiring from the federal government, he became a full-time accounting and business professor at San Jacinto College. He taught at San Jacinto College for over 20 years.
He had a passion for spending time with family, dining out, reading, and traveling the country with his beloved wife Elvia in their RV-especially to Disney World! They enjoyed many trips to Branson and Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one daughter Cynthia Sanchez, and sister Becky Cruz.
He is survived by three children: Roy (Maria) Sanchez, Elizabeth (Jack) Andrus, Ronnie (Leticia) Sanchez. 10 grandchildren: Michelle, Austen, Brandon, Blake, Ronni Michelle, Marcus, Jaime, Candelisa, Cynthia, and Bianca. 19 great-grandchildren: Mary Grace, Aiden, Apple, Sunday, Shalom, Levi, Finn, Gracen, Dylan, Jailin, Jacquelyn, Allie, Gian, Marc, Alina, Robbie, Gianna, Charlee, and Caysen. 1 great-great grandchild: Michael III.
A visitation for Roy will be held Monday, February 3, 2025 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am with a funeral service to start at 10:30 am and a committal to follow. All services will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 21620 Gulf Freeway in Webster, Texas.
