Ruby Hildebrand, 88, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away March 12, 2023. She was born in Bossier City, Louisiana in 1934 to George and Essa Gray. Ruby’s young life was filled with music as she learned to play the piano at eight years old and then five years later decided to master the organ, stating the organ was more fun to play and a lot more challenging. After high school Ruby worked ten years for the Mayor of Bossier City. This line of work sparked a life-long interest in politics, government and world events. She loved reading the newspaper each day, often clipping articles and mailing them to friends and family. Later in her thirties, Ruby worked for Texas Eastern in Bossier City and when the firm relocated to Houston, Ruby followed. During Ruby’s career she always worked at an Executive secretary level for upper management. She retired from Duke Energy in Houston.
Ruby fell in love with the Texas way of life and remained a proud Texan the rest of her life, but she never gave up on her Cajun food. Ruby married another Texan, Ralph Wallace Davis in 1983 and he kept her in smiles until his death from cancer in June 1988. Ruby’s favorite story about Rip was that he bought her a motorcycle and taught her how to ride it.
Ruby married a second time in September 2001 to Don Hildebrand of Friendswood, Texas. Their marriage of 17 years ended when Don passed in March 2018. Ruby and Don loved road trips, traveling and exploring the American countryside especially the western states. They would stop and visit family and friends along their route. Ruby was always quick to smile, and had a fun sense of humor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Friendswood, and the Texas’ Republican women’s party.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Essa and George Gray, both her spouses, and her brothers, George Jr and Tommy Gray. She is survived by four nieces and three nephews, Georgia Huneycutt, Candice Retzer, Judy Kamps, Cathy Parmer, George Gray, Danny Gray and Darren Gray.
