Sherryl was compassionate, loving and kind. She was so trusting and shy that sometimes people took advantage of her, but she never lost her trusting nature, and her tendency to see the good in people. Her dear friend, Brenda said she never allowed anyone to say something negative about others around her.
Some kids bring home stray pets; her children brought home stray kids, and she took them in with that compassion, never judging them – only guiding them and offering support. She practically raised a few abandoned kids though her resources were scarce.
Though she had many struggles, when she got excited about something, her big brown eyes lit up and she wiggled her shoulders which made her look so cute you couldn’t help but laugh along with her and share in her excitement.
Sherryl was extraordinarily creative. She loved scrapbooking, painting, and sewing. She treasured her time with her collecting and scrapbook friends and shared her love of crafts with friends and family. But first and foremost, Sherryl was a mother and grandmother. She loved her children Monica, Vicki, and Doug and gave them unconditional love.
Sherryl was proud of her six grandchildren. She cherished the time she spent watching Katherine and Carlene perform. Sherryl looked forward to visits from Shelbi, her first granddaughter, who had a special place in her heart as did Ashlyn the youngest. She loved doing crafts with Dougie. J.C. recalled that when he was little, he was running from Papa after doing some mischief, and ran behind his grandmother because he knew she would protect him.
Sherryl also loved traveling with her family and with Brenda and Randy. Randy liked to tease Sherryl when they travelled. Once on a trip, getting off the elevator, Sherryl’s suitcase wouldn’t cooperate and the doors were closing. Randy came to the rescue, and then teased her for the rest of the trip about spending all of her time in an elevator. This led to even bigger jokes so that even years later, she often laughed when she saw an elevator.
On a camping trip a few months ago, Shonn, her beloved son-in-law suggested that they leave a day early and Monica was frustrated, but Sherryl responded, “Don’t worry. We will leave Shonn behind next time.”
We will never leave Sherryl behind. She will always be in our hearts and memories and we will share with the world the love she shared with us.
