He entered this world under humble circumstances in Owosso, Michigan, on December 30th, 1962, to Mary Marsik McNeill and William Letts. After a successful high school football career, he went on to study at Michigan State University, earning a degree in anthropology. He met his future wife, Mary Evelyn Lyons, while they were working as archaeologists in Pittsfield, Illinois. After some time doing archaeology, they moved to Texas. While in Texas, he found his true calling working with computers. He went on to earn another degree, this time in computer science, from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. His first tech job was working for NASA. After several years at NASA, he had an opportunity to pivot his career to one working in the healthcare system. He first worked for M.D. Anderson Cancer Center but eventually found his home at Memorial Herman Hospital - Memorial City. His work was integral to the successful distribution of the COVID vaccine throughout the Houston metro area. He was so incredibly proud of how his team came together to ensure that Houstonians had access to the vaccine through a much-lauded interface that allowed people to make appointments online.
A natural teacher, he was a wizard at explaining complex technology and math in an easy-to-understand way. Ted was a wonderful husband and father. He was a handyman savant. He had a passion for his children and his wife, western novels, old movies, Jeeps, and deep-diving into his family’s history in places such as the National Archives in Washington D.C. Eventually, he was able to trace his lineage back to 1671, New Jersey, and William Letts the Weaver. Ted loved road trips, his dogs Jackie and Titus, blues music, and sitting by the lake with a warm cup of coffee. He was not afraid of new challenges. In 2011 and 2012, he spent innumerable hours training for the "Bike MS Texas MS 150" Houston to Austin bike race. One of his proudest accomplishments was completing this race.
He was preceded in death by his daughters Greer Marie and Esme, his son Conner Liam, his father William Gary Letts, and his Aunt Annie Tallman.
Ted is survived by his cherished wife Mary and his loving and devoted children Malachy, Keeley, Brenna, and Finn Lyons-Letts. His parents Mary and John McNeill. His brothers Mike (Shelly) Letts and Tom (Heather) Bailey. His Aunt Karen Marsik and Aunt Kathy and Uncle Mike Watson. He will forever be remembered by his Mother-in-Law Evelyn Lyons; Sisters-in-Law Patricia (Tim) Schopen, Kathleen (Ronny) Carlson, Sheila Lyons-Sobaski (Steve Sobaski) and Eileen Lyons; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in Michigan and Illinois. Ted will be missed.
