Bill’s childhood was spent fishing, hunting, and playing baseball. After high school, Bill played for the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Baseball team before dedicating his career to the United States Army.
Bill served in the Vietnam War (1967-1968), spent years in Panama, South Korea, and enjoyed the shores of Hawaii. Most of his latter service was spent at Fort Hood Army base before retiring as a decorated Command Sergeant Major for the 504th Military Intelligence Brigade. After 27 years of serving our country with his wife by his side, Bill began his retirement. During this time he worked on various projects including writing a book about his experience in Vietnam and the TET offensive and started writing another on the war in Iraq.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kay Garrett of Pearland, TX; two daughters, Priscilla Demaret (Robert) of Pearland and Stephanie Garrett (Melanie) of Houston; and two grandsons (Liam and Lucas Demaret).
Bill was a loyal member of the Catholic Church who loved deeply and prided himself in keeping his loved ones safe. To say his loved ones will miss him is a massive understatement. He will be remembered and acknowledged as a hardworking, devoted family man…and esteemed soldier.
