

William Taylor (Bill) Melton was born on October 6, 1932 in Yazoo County, Mississippi and went to be with the Lord on August 6, 2012 at the age of 79 in Lufkin, Texas. He is preceded in death by Lee Melton, his first wife of 37 years, brothers Jim, Sonny, Don, Charles, and grandson Jake Powledge. Bill is survived by his wife, Betty, and children Susan and husband Jimmy Warren, son Michael and wife Andrea Melton, son Charles Melton, his sister Dot and brother-in-law Bob Smith, 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Bill was Honorably Discharged from the US Air Force in 1953. He was a member and former Commander of American Legion Post 499, in Galena Park, and a member of Ironworker Local 84. An avid fisherman, after retiring from Harris County Precinct 4, Bill moved from Galena Park to Broaddus, Texas to live out his life on Lake Sam Rayburn, his favorite of all lakes he ever fished.
Visitation for Bill will be from 4 to 7 pm Sunday, August 12, 2012, services at 10 am on Monday, August 13, 2012 in the chapel of Forest Park East in Webster, TX, followed by a brief graveside service. Pallbearers will be Shane Barnes, Brad Smith, Brandon Smith, Allan Smith, Randy Melton, and John Orn. Honorary Pall bearers are Bob Smith, Jr., Mike Smith, Jonathon Grimes, Chad Warren, and Nick Baldwin.
