Willie Gus Phillips

He was born January 16, 1923 in Fannett, Texas to parents, Jim and Willie Danzel Phillips. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, after which he returned to Galveston where he played baseball and later became a member of the 135 Iron Worker’s Local. For almost thirty years Gus was a well-known shrimper in Galveston. After his retirement to Clear Lake City, he continued to enjoy watching baseball and fishing with family and friends.

Gus is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gloria (Fernandez) Phillips, daughter, Linda Perez, son, Nicholas Phillips, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, sisters, Victoria High and Sophia Lopez, brother-in-law, Charles Fernandez, sisters-in-law, Cil Kalsnes and Arlene Fernandez, 5 nephews and 4 nieces.

Friends are invited to celebrate Gus’ life and visit with the family on Sunday, August 18 from 5 to 7 P.M. and attend funeral services at 10 A.M. on Monday, August 19 at Forest Park East in Webster.
