Yvonna Gertrude Richey Crandall "MamMaw" was born on September 25, 1924 to Genevieve Crumm and Joe Richey in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She passed peacefully from this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 30, 2014 and is now reunited with loved ones in her eternal home. Her death was the result of a massive stroke she suffered six days before her 90th birthday.
She graduated from high school in the summer of 1942; graduated from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in 1944 as a Registered Nurse, quickly after she married her true love, First Class Petty Officer CB Steel Worker, Richard Allen Crandall, Sr. They were married 57 years and had two wonderful sons. During the first twelve years they lived in seven different states and the South Pacific island of Saipan before settling in Texas due to Mr. Crandall's U.S. Naval career. Yvonna worked several different jobs while often alone raising their sons. She worked at J. C. Penney's, The Methodist hospital of Houston at the Medical Center in the emergency room and labor delivery departments and for several pediatric physicians: Dr. Kandais, Dr. Richard Frankel, Dr. Flamen Ball, and Dr, M. Everett Truitt.
She had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed oil painting with her life-long friend Rene Farrar. She created some beautiful works of art and gave most of them to her family. These paintings are pieces of her that we treasure. She enjoyed playing games of Scrabble and Hearts. She liked square dancing and dancing (Mr. Crandall not so much). She loved Christmas and hosting the traditional party with family and friends usually on December 21st. She was a great cook and made the best dressing and desserts
Other interests definitely included shopping with Ruth, shopping with Jeanne, shopping with Ruth and Jeanne, shopping with Ruth and just shopping. Yvonna enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with her family. More recently she played bingo weekly at The Waterford where she lived independently for the last several years. She was computer savvy and was on Facebook and emailed regularly. Her ipad was her constant companion and she spent hours playing video games. She was always talking, walking fast and laughing. I can hear her now.
She always said she had a happy childhood and a happy life. In 1990 she had a cardiac arrest and saw the angels and bright lights, but she came back to us then. She survived breast cancer in 2003, she never felt badly nor complained. If you asked, she would say she was fine and okay. We always said she had to be numb from the neck down. She was always appropriately and stylishly dressed. Her full white hair was remarkable. She always wore a birthstone baby charm necklace with pride that was a symbol of her love and legacy representing each family member. She constantly had us close to her heart.
Left to mourn are her sons: Richard Allen, Jr and wife, Renee' and Michael Myron and wife, Paula; grandchildren: Richard Lee and wife, Kimberly; Christopher Allen and wife, Katrina; Eric Michael; Erin Renee'; Emily Le Ann and husband, Jason Wilbanks; and great-grandchildren: Lee, Blake, Madeline, Lilyanna, Grace, Destiny, Lane, Kaleb, Ethan, Kaitlyn, Kassadi, Katrina, Hunter, Keeleigh, Emma, and Jay. We have loved you to the moon and back and we will love you still. Our days with you have passed too quickly and are becoming a memory; a treasure.
