Dear Carothers Family,

My name is John and I live(d) across the street from from Mr. Joe (beside's Mr. Harry) on Boyce ave. Joe was a mentor to me and I viewed him with high regards. He was the first neighbour to greet us when we first moved in 2005 and was my first employer back when i was in 8th grade (cutting the lawn). At first I didn't think too much of it, just a job and nothing else but over time, his passion for gardening inspired me greatly.  When I finished work, Joe and Rosa always invited me over to share stories, history, and general good advice for hours on end which I highly appreciate to this day. We also connected as my father is a TTC operator (Eglinton division) and had some stories about his days there. I last visited them when I was in 11th grade (~2012) at the McCowan Residence. At the time, Joe and Rosa looked so happy and he was very eager to show off the amenities, especially the swimming pool! I wish i could've visited them one last time but I went away to University. They were the best neighbours ever, great mentor, and a good friend.

It is with sadness that I have received the news of the passing of Joe, the beloved husband of my little sister Rosa.  Joe was a strong family leader and a friend to all of us in the family.  His passing leaves a void in my heart but the memories of his enthusiastic presence will remain with me and my family forever.  I'd like to express condolences from the Feesey family.
Recalling his support of the Canadian Cancer Society, a donation has been made in his name from the Feesey family.

To all of the Carothers Family -  We are so sorry to hear of your father's passing.  Our father (Ken Crew - passed June l, 2005) was a cousin of Joe's and according to our father, they used to chum around together when they
were young.  We remember Joe and Rosa from the family picnics, that were
held every year in June.  The last time we saw Joe and Rosa was at our
father's funeral.  Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

My parents Melba & Alex Stephen  lived at 27 Horton Blvd and And I knew your Mom  Rosa& Dad Joe. When i got married in 1975 Your Parents give me Amway cleaning gifts. And we were all part of the Boyce & Horton Ratepayer group. When I moved from Horton Blvd I use to come and visit the old streets. Mr &Mrs Gray were across the street from Joe and Rosa. To ALL the  Carothers family.   I am very sorry to read your parents both passed away.    My husband Charlie Russell was an Amway dealer through Edita Mummery till he passed away in 1994 and Edita passed away in 2008.    Your Mom and Dad were WONDERFUL people and always had an open home for a visit anytime even not to pick up Amway orders .      Didn't realize your Mom had passed and wished I had kept in touch with your dad after my husband passed but somehow I couldn't seem to call him - although I kept telling myself I should.    Glad they got to enjoy their later years.    My husband was only 63 and looking forward to retirement and never got to see our kids marry or any of our 5 grandchildren.
