Devoted, loving and caring: wife to Norbert for 67 years; mother to Sigrid (Gord) and Armin (Linda); Oma to Derek and Jason (Ashley); Uroma to Ellie and Emma.
Hilda was born in Germany and is predeceased by her younger sister, Karin. At the age of 13 she lost her beloved father in World War II.
Hilda became a hairdresser and in 1950 she met Norbert Sommer who at the time worked with her stepfather as a carpenter.
In 1954 Hilda and Norbert married and immigrated to Toronto, Canada where they began to build a new life and family together. It included a community of friendships that grew through their spiritual family at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Scarborough.
Hilda was a gentle soul, patient, tolerant and forgiving. One of her wisdoms: how can we expect peace in the world if we don’t create peace in our own families?
Intuitive and empathetic, Hilda cared deeply about her friends and family, and was quietly very spiritual.
Months before her death from congestive heart failure, Hilda shared that she was so small and frail when she was born. People said that she’d never amount to anything and here she made it to 91 years of age! She’s had a good long life with no regrets, and was ready to move on.
We will miss and cherish her and thank God for having had her in our lives.
A Celebration of Life Service with Interment will be planned for the Spring of 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
