It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Jean Elaine Taylor (nee Edwards), beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She passed peacefully in North Bay, Ontario on Sunday, May 18th, 2025, at the age of 91. Jean was born in Belleville, Ontario on October 15th, 1933. She was a sister to Bill and Bruce Edwards. She met her husband, Ronald Taylor, in Belleville where he was employed as an apprentice teacher. They were wed on July 6 th,1957 and created a home together in West Hill, living in the same house for 65 years. Here they raised three sons: Stuart; Scott; and Andrew. Jean was a very proud Nana to Lilian, Alexander, Louisa and Iona.
Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was an active member of St. Margarets in the Pines Church as a parishioner of 67 years. She was an active volunteer, helping with numerous charity events year to year. She knitted hats, mitts and booties for premature babies in local hospitals, helped organize church bazaars, and gave generously of her time and money to the Canadian Cancer society. Jean had her hands full raising three boys and managing a household, but there was always happiness and love.
Both Jean and Ron enjoyed travelling, the outdoors and loved animals. They introduced their sons to hiking, cross-country skiing, canoeing and a general appreciation of nature. Camping, family road trips and summers at the cottage were especially memorable. They both loved gardening. Jean had a particular disdain for weeds; their extensive gardens were always immaculate. Jean was a kind soul. Her reflective nature was occasionally punctuated by unexpected, humorous and often profound observations on life. Her smiles and generosity will be deeply missed.
Services and burial will take place at St. Margaret’s in the Pines Church (4130 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough) on Friday, May 30th, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1:00, followed by funeral and graveside services commencing at 2:00pm. A light reception will take place afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Margaret’s in the Pines Anglican Church, 4130 Lawrence Ave East, Scarborough, M1E 2R8.
