Dear Dennis and Family,

I'm sending an expanded version of what I tried to enter into the Guest Book on Mary Jane's obituary page.  I attempted it many times and for some reason it did not register. It’s important to me that you know how special Mary Jane was in my life.   
From the day that I interviewed her for the position at Terraview-Willowfield, she stood out as an exceptional candidate and I knew she had to join our team.  She was a highly professional individual with very strong skill sets and an extremely capable office administrator.   Very quickly I saw that she was more than that.  Mary Jane became my confidant and we often problem solved together.  She protected my privacy, time and energy levels so that I could best serve the school, staff and community.  She became a surrogate mother to many of the young teachers and developed very close ties with a lot of the staff and parents.   

It was easy to see how our working relationship would blossom into a friendship.  We often shared thoughts and stories about family, travel and our hopes and dreams.  We met frequently to exchange our experiences with the kids as we both struggled to be good parents.  Our favourite restaurants, Red Lobster or The Wexford became established haunts, especially after I retired, where we would connect and catch up on a regular basis.   

We were both working when we last saw each other this past June.  She was happy to share the news that she was managing the half time workload and looking forward to the summer of anticipated travel to Florida and to see the progress on the house in Port Dover.  We were excited at the prospect of life in retirement.   

Tragically it was not meant to be and I can’t tell you how sad that makes me feel.  I miss her tremendously.   She gave of herself without reservation and I valued her generosity, her big heart and her friendship.

It’s with a very heavy heart that I send my regrets to you, Dennis, at not being able to attend Mary Jane’s funeral.   A long-standing commitment to support Victoria out west has taken me out of province.  I send my condolences to you and the family from Kelowna, BC.   
Take care of yourself Dennis. I know Mary Jane loved you very much and she would want you and Kevin and Cheryl to stay close and watch out for each other.

I only knew Mary Jane a short time (we were room mates at Toronto General in Aug. 2009) but we maintained contact ever since. If Mary Jane wasn't corresponding, it was Dennis (and I thank you, Dennis, for keeping me in the loop.) While at the hospital, both of us were going through trying times and it gave me comfort (being 500 miles from home) to have someone who could understand what I was going through. We also shared laughs at some of the situations we found ourselves in as well as a mutual groaning over our meal disappointments. I'd so hoped for us to reunite next spring, to show off our battle scars and say we'd beat it. Whether Mary Jane was your wife, mother, family member or friend....my sympathies to each of you and my appreciation for having even knowing her the short time I did. Blessings to you.

Dear Dennis, Kevin and Cheryl,
I worked with Mary Jane for many years at Terraview and she was The Best! I so appreciated the fact that she always knew want we needed before we did. She was able to take care of everyone from the smallest child to the most experienced teachers with poise and ease. She was selfless in her care for others and I always knew that I could count on her. Beyond caring for school needs, the love and support she gave me as a friend is what will live on in my heart.
We were all blessed to have her in our lives. Thank you so much for sharing Mary Jane with us. She will be missed and remembered fondly.

Firstly my deepest & sincere condolences to you Dennis,Kevin & Cheryl, my heart & prayers are forever with you all. Mary Jane I have known almost my entire life, since I was a little child. She was a big part in my life, not only in my childhood but as a teenager and into my adulthood. She was always there for me threw all my milestones, good & bad. Mary Jane was a great person with genuine intentions, a remarkable teacher, who taught me valuable lessons in life, patience, understanding, acceptence, even things as I became a young mother. I dont recall any parts in my past 37 years without fond memories of Mary Jane being there. Dennis & MaryJane played a very important role in my life as well as  my families. We would always have gatherings & celebrations all together. Mary Jane was loved by so many, and loved so many back in return. She is one of the most remarkable people I have ever known, always caring, giving, sweet and there for you whenever you needed her. Not only was she like a mother figure to me, she was my first born (Brianna's) god mother. I still remember the day Mary Jane drove me, to the hospital at 5am, that cold Novemeber morning when I went into labour. My heart breaks that we lost such a wonderful person, my soul is blessed she came into our lives. There are so very few good hearted people out there like Mary Jane, and for anyone who was touched by her is truly blessed. Dennis, Kevin,Cheryl your my extended family and we love you all. Mary Jane you are now looking down on us from a good place above and you live within our hearts, never forgotten we love you dearly.. see you soon one day!
