It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Paul James Kelly, of Scarborough, on Monday, December 6, 2021 at the age of 79. He is survived by his loving wife Cepta of 44 years, daughter Amanda (Andrew) and dog, Cooper. He will be dearly missed by his sister-in-law Monica, nephews Robert and Desmond (Leah, Carleigh & Alex), and his cousins Wayne (Joan) and Kerry (Liz).
Paul was born in Sydney, Australia on May 2, 1942. Paul would talk about the time during his youth spent with his grandmother and cousins in Tasmania, as well as his surfing and lifeguard adventures at the Dee Why beach in Sydney. He travelled to Vancouver, Canada in 1967 with his dear friends Ian and Roy.
Paul was a master of his trade and a beloved employee at the Toronto Sun newspaper. He started working at the Toronto Sun six months after it started, in May 1972. Paul worked at the Sun for the next 24 years, with 18 years as the superintendent of the composing room. One of the Sun’s founders, Peter Worthington, states, "I have no hesitation in saying that Paul Kelly was an outstanding employee and leader, without whom the paper would not have grown the way it did. Under him the Sun's composing room became arguably, the most efficient in the business."
Paul was an avid fisherman, gardener and animal lover. Paul was never too far away from one of his dogs - Neddy, Cody or Cooper.
